In recent years, more and more countries report passing the 100% mobile penetration barrier. Currently that is the case in most of the EU member states.

However, it is evident that this figure is not the same as 100% mobile ownership.

Broadband penetration - Is Austria lagging behind?

The European Comission published its Progress Report on the Single European Electronic Communications Market in 2007. It contains a comparison of fixed broadband penetration rates together with the speed of progress. Although in January 2008, Austria has a penetration rate near to the EU27 average of 20%, the country also showed the smallest increase in penetration rate over the previous year.

CITT Survey on ICT Research Organizations and Companies

One of the foremost tasks of the CITT project is to assess the ICT related research and technology landscape of the Centrope region. In order to achieve this aim we would like to get comprehensive information about the activities of the companies, universities and research institutions involved in R&D in the area of ICT.

Detailed information help us to approach the narrow segments of companies and research organizations that match for a certain research issue.

ICT to combat climate change

I am very glad to have the opportunity to be a nowEurope contributor. With my first article and warm welcome I would like to call your attention to global warming, in particular to the ICT aspects of the combat against climate change.

As part of its effort to combat climate change, the European Commission recently announced that it would promote the use of ICT (Information and Communications Technologies) to improve energy efficiency throughout the economy.
