Who knows this programm?
Research for SME associations
Aims at developing technical solutions to common problems to a large number of SMEs in specific industrial sectors or segments of the value chain (like ICT) through research that could not be addressed under Research for SMEs.
Projects can, for example, aim to develop or conform to European norms and standards, and to meet regulatory requirements in areas such as health, safety and environmental protection. Projects must be driven by the SME associations, which are given the opportunity to subcontract research to RTD performers in order to acquire the necessary technological knowledge for their members.
Projects must render clear exploitation potential and economic benefits for the SMEs members of the associations involved.
RTD performers in order to acquire the necessary technological knowledge for their members.
Could be of interest for some of us, maybe for the CITT Project group.

Last possibility to apply for this programm is by 18th of December! As it is an EU Programme, you need at least 3 partners from 3 countries.

For us, as UNIQATOR, this type of program will be an ideal way to push the cTubes Collaboration Technology to a completely new level. We are already in contact with the Austrian FFG about it. We are aiming for the call that is expected to be opened mid 2009, with decision around Feb 2010 and actual project start in 4. quarter 2010.
This means that for us the time is now to define the concrete project targets and in parallel seek the neccessary cooperations with research institutes. We have already defined the focus points for reserch and are happy to discuss them with potential partners.
The type of program is ideal for pushing a commercial product to a new level since the IP rights stay with the participating SMEs, giving the SME the chance to finance far-reaching research and not just the next immediate development steps. Something normally only large organisations can afford.
I see one big challenge though: Bridging the (in my experience) often very different mindsets of research institutes and the commercial world. That said, I think the project setup is ideally choosen to ease this problem by making the SME the ‘paying customer’ of the research institutes.
If you are part of a research institute in the field of informatics that might be interested in a cooperation within this program please let me know.
We - three consulting comnpanies for the food industry - are very interested in this call. We would like to bridge the current technical discussion of large companies in the area of ICT (for example METRO and other retailers are leading in this and pushing the suppliers) with the practice of SMEs.
SMEs struggeling with all kind of requirements. Technical investments are needed but should be the right ones. Therefore we would like to combine the experiences of different surveys with focus groups of stakeholders. What is the state-of-the-art in ICT in the food business? Do SMEs have experiences already? Why is ICT not implemented? Limits? Barriers? Costs?
I refer also to the surveys IPRI (International Performance Research Institute)has done on the use of RFID . I am interested if we could combine our efforts. Who is interested in joining our bid?
Dr. Sylvia Pfaff (FIS Europe)
Dear all,
as National Contact Point (NCP) for this call, I am very willing in supporting possible proposers and would also be very grateful for a short notice if you have plans in participating.
I can only encourage anyone to use this opportunity, as it is a two stage call and you only need a 12 page proposal at the 18th of December and FFG is also supporting Austrian participants with the “Anbahnungsfinanzierung”.
best regards,
Jürgen Rattenberger.
