EurActive writes that the Czechs intend to shine a spotlight on entrepreneurship during the upcoming presidency of the European Union in January-June 2009.
“In the Czech Republic we lack private money in support of entrepreneurship, incubators and research projects,” said Czech Education Minister Ondrej Liška, adding that the problem was the same in all other EU countries. He wants each government to analyse the barriers in their own countries and make the appropriate changes to overcome obstacles to enhanced business-education cooperation.
The Czechs don’t plan to pass any new legislature to promote entrepreneurship, but rather reduce the amount of bureaucratic red tape that is already hindering business owners. Now that makes sense!
In line with the European Year of Creativity and Innovation in 2009, the Czech EU Presidency hopes to spark the beginnings of a change in Europe’s entrepreneurial mindset.
As an example of action taken in his own country, Liška said the Czech Republic was currently in a process of changing its rigid tax system, which actually penalises innovative businesses that invest in education. He also deplored the fact that despite the single market and the Services Directive, there are still “many legal obstacles” to workers’ mobility in the EU, as well as to setting up business in another country.

It’s nice to read this example how media form the public opinion. While EurActive broadcasts this (imho smart) priority to abroad, the Czech massmedia choose to comment again and again on the stupid (imho indeed) TV spot on the Czech presidency. Or it may be the poor communication strategy of the Czech government itself
The most controversial is the slogan that is an idiom meaning both as We make it sweet to Europe as We give Europe a hard time.
Anyway Ondrej Liska is one of our youngest ministers (appointed by Green party) and his reform will affect the R&D infrastructure as never before. If I remember well there is 22 state institutions where R&D public funding come from (Ministry of Education is just one of them).
