Launched in October 2005 by DG Enterprise and Industry, Europe INNOVA is an initiative for innovation professionals under the thematic “Structuring the European Research Area” of the 6th Framework Programme. It aims at providing policy makers, innovation intermediaries and enterprises with data and surveys on innovation. This project adopts a sector-based approach and tends to develop networking on innovation in the all Europe. More than 800 innovation professionals from 23 Member States are involved in this initiative.
The initiative’s portal presents the work and results of Europe INNOVA projects and networks on issues such as cluster management or financing and managing innovation. In addition, a ‘Sectoral Innovation Watch” focuses on sectoral barriers and challenges for innovation, maps the most attractive and innovative niches and highlights some potential collaborations emerging from interdependencies between sectors. Sectors covered by this monitoring are:

o Biotechnology
o Construction
o Eco-innovation
o Food and drink
o ICT/optics
o Medical devices
o Space
o Textile
In the near future, the website will also provide users with news and events services as well as the opportunity to participate in interactive discussion forums in order to exchange good practices, ideas and policy recommendations.
